The aim of this project was to expand the conceptual lens of ADHD, focusing on traditional Māori narratives such as pūrākau and whakataukī to understand the Māori experience of ADHD and create an accommodating framework. Using stories surrounding Māui, it was found that he embodies many traits of ADHD and uses these to his advantage. This report focused on trait duality, and a strengths-based approach to perceptions and treatments of ADHD. This project was included with a suggestion for a new framework: Ngā Mata Rua ā Māui - The two faces of Māui. This framework is aimed as a conceptual tool that urges those to look to Māui as a person of guidance; to both follow in his actions and learn from his mistakes.
