Publishing the Te Kawa a Maui Student-Built Atlas

Project purpose: To facilitate the publication of map layers that students 2009-11 have contributed to the TKAM Atlas, and secondly to organise and analyse student feedback data related to their Atlas work, for publication in a journal article. http://www.victoria.ac.nz/Māori/research/atlas/default.aspx

The programme of work to be carried out:
1. Organise student map layer files into the Atlas; organise and systematise data and data processing procedures
2. Facilitate quality control of work submitted to the Atlas
3. Collate student work from Te Ika a Maru Bay archaeological site observations and prepare a report for the New Zealand Archaeological Association, and for the land owner
4. Verify karaka sites found and mapped by students around Wellington
5. Work with VUW web services to filter and prepare material for upload to the TKAM Atlas website
6. Data entry of student evaluation forms, analysis, comparison and presentation of the results
7. Work with touchscreen technologies (such as iPad) for the presentation of the Atlas locally
8. Perform a literature review of digital mapping in relation to student engagement

Day to day nature of the work: Mostly office and computer work, contacting (via phone and email) students, potentially some field-work around Wellington.
