Project commenced:Project Summary
This project, Wānanga Rau, Taumata Rau, Pukenga Rau, aims to provide an innovative conceptual toolkit and resources for the Māori Performing Arts community in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
The resources will be collated in a series of publications, including one monograph manuscript and two to three short-form thought pieces on specific aspects of kapa haka.
The publications will be based on a collection of keynote presentations and follow-up discussions from the annual Te Rautoki a Toi, a symposium organised by the Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts and Postgraduate diploma team at Te Whare wānanga o Awanuiārangi. In 2024 the guest speakers include a recent Otago University PhD graduate, Matatini judges, Kapa Haka experts, and researchers.
The publication intends to 1) contribute to new knowledge in Māori performing arts and research, 2) contribute to the regeneration and support the future-proofing of te reo Māori, and 3) support transformative teaching and learning practices in Māori Performing Arts.
The publications will be launched at Te Matatini and disseminated to tauira, staff and the wider Māori performing arts community.
