The purpose of this summer intern project is to source information (cultural and spatial) that describes the student’s relationship to their marae in preparation for learning how to use spatial information technology to create maps of their ancestral landscapes. 

The purpose of this summer internship project is to explore the potential to develop hauora and pūtaiao solutions for Te Toki Voyaging trust in their kaupapa of kaitiakitanga and mauri ora of the marine environment through traditional navigation and sailing.

The project involves wānanga with Te Toki Voyaging Trust, sailing and supporting ngā kaupapa waka.

How can New Zealand’s state legal system recalibrate to challenge the Crown’s assumption of sovereignty over lands and waters treasured by Māori?

The significance of this research project lies in its contribution to deeper understand what role Māori SMEs have as critical constituents of the Māori Economy. Recent years have seen attention paid to the merit of the Māori economy, based on the potential of an economy worth an estimated $42.6bn in 2013 (Nana, Khan, & Schulze, 2015).

Led by Dr Rawinia Higgins and Associate Professor Poia Rewi, this research investigates how Te Reo Māori supports economic development, cultural identity, and social cohesion. It focuses on increasing language participation and fluency, while deepening understanding of the language’s value across diverse contexts to strengthen revitalisation efforts and inform future language strategies.
