The annual Māori and Indigenous Doctoral Students' Conference (MAI Conference) is being hosted by MAI ki Pōneke this year and is being held at Te Herenga Waka Marae and Victoria University of Wellington from Wednesday 23rd - Friday 25th November 2016.  Over the years, many Māori doctoral students have acknowledged the contribution that MAI Te Kupenga, as a flagship Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM) initiative, has made to their achievements. MAI Te Kupenga is dedicated to fostering bonds between Māori and Indigenous scholars across a wide range of disciplines and sectors, as well as across nations and oceans.

It is fitting, therefore, that the theme for this year’s conference is:

"He hono tāngata e kore e motu, kāpā he taura waka e motu: Bonds between people cannot be broken, unlike the severable canoe rope".

This theme reflects the important connections that the MAI doctoral students make along their journey. We encourage presenters to share how their research can act as a conduit for connectivity between people: kia kaha ai ngā hononga i waenganui i a tātou te tangata.

All registrations are to be completed via this online form before 7 September 2016.

Abstracts for 3-Minute thesis and standard presentations should be submitted through your regional MAI coordinator before 7 September 2016. Contact regional coordinator for abstract submission form.
