Purpose: NPM Publication Support Grants have a long and successful history of providing support for Māori researchers to publish and/or disseminate their research findings. The grant is for books, written in the Māori language and other creations including photography and web publications that contribute to Indigenous research development and the research programme of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM).

Applicants are encouraged to follow the application guidelines/requirements carefully and to ensure the budget is justified and reasonable. We expect applications to be quite diverse.  Applications will be assessed individually on their own merits. 

Eligibility: The grant is for senior students, emerging and established Māori researchers at one of NPM's 21 Partner Institutions and will generally cover a one-year publishing project.

Value: up to a maximum of $15,000 (ex GST) per grant.  Expect at least 2 awards.

Applications close on 1 May 2017 at 4pm.

Publication details (please provide a description of the planned publication and work including the following.  do not exceed five pages ):

  1. Proposed full title of publication or other creation
  2. Intended publisher (if known or applicable)
  3. Type of publication or creation (e.g. book, handbook, text book, fact sheet, web publication, refereed publication, photography)
  4. Description of Publication or Creation
    1. General description of the contents
  5. Describe how this publication aligns with or contributes to the Research Themes of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga
  6. How does this publication/creation contribute to the body of knowledge that is concerned with Māori development?
  7. Is this a special case e.g. developing new area of research; fostering collaboration; developing initiatives; developing capability? If so, how?
  8. Enhancing and using te reo Māori (briefly explain how the publication will contribute to enhancing the revitalisation and normalisation of te reo Māori within our research settings, communities and/or society).
    1. Te Reo Māori Expert (Where Māori language is used in the publication, we require that a suitably qualified Māori language expert undertake a Māori language edit.). Name the person who will undertake this Māori language edit for you and briefly outline their qualifications - formal and/or non-formal.
  9. Does the publication/creation use photos or images? (Note permission to use al photos and images is required).  Please  confirm image types and permission status or arrangements to gain permission.
  10. Dissemination

Outline the dissemination strategy including key audiences and any events associated with promulgation of research outcomes/publication.
